but it IS the computer’s fault. can it really be considered “blaming” if it’s something that’s actually happened?

Speaking of computers ‘eating it,’ mine completely tanked on Tuesday. Zappo. It is currently in the shop to have every component tested to see what did, or did not, fry. Luckily most of the components are still under warranty.
