if coding is boring you’re doing it wrong

Though I’ll be the first to extol the virtues of open source software, it’s easy to see how the suits get scared off when I find comments like this in a prominent location in the kernel:

723 /*
724 * Tell the world that we're going to be the grim
725 * reaper of innocent orphaned children.
726 *
727 * We don't want people to have to make incorrect
728 * assumptions about where in the task array this
729 * can be found.
730 */
731 init_pid_ns.child_reaper = current

  1. Hey, if someone didn’t do it those innocent orphaned children would turn into zombies.

  2. If I invented something cool, I would name it something totally stupid or nonsensical or otherwise weird to throw people off (like “Slashdot”). If I were in a band, I would name my album “Self Titled” and I would put characters into my song titles that Windows files can’t have, like semicolons. I would name my invention something that yields an awkward acronym, like ASS. Have you seen Will’s new ASS? I have an ASS now, too. You should come over and check out my ASS. ASS. Etc… And you’d all be forced to use the name! Hahahahah!
